Getting Excited About August Camp NaNoWriMo

WritingI’m so pleased that the great folks at NaNoWriMo have developed Camp NaNoWriMo for those of us who love a high adventure writing experience to brighten up our summer.  Thanks guys!

NaNoWriMo, which stands for National Novel Writing Month, began way back in July, 1999 in the San Fransisco Bay Area.  This event, held every year in November, has expanded far beyond the expectations of the first participants.  I read No Plot? No Problem! back in 2007, and my daughter and I began a little friendly, off-the-books writing competition that November.  Sarah’s my oldest daughter, and I’m pleased to say that she’s become a prolific writer even though she has struggled with dysgraphia all of her life.

For all the Language Arts teachers out there, and in particular for homeschoolers of high school students, NaNoWriMo is a great opportunity for anyone serious about encouraging their serious writers-in-training.  For anyone else who loves to write and has always dreamed of completing a novel, this is your golden opportunity.

You don’t have to wait for November! Camp NaNoWriMo gives you a way to jump right in, right now.  I’ve got my sunscreen, my bug spray, my water bottle, and my hiking boots, and if you miss seeing me this month, you can always send me a letter at camp!
